The 1st head unit was an exceptional 5632CD by Clarion, which had originally replaced the failed Fujitsu Ten double-DIN OEM unit. The Clarion failed after 2.5 years of service & is sorely missed. The current Kenwood unit is on the chopping block it's so bad. I believe its low 1.8V pre-amp output is the primary source of frustration, but it just never provided satisfaction. 'Nuf said.
The Kenwood equalizer was a wholly different story. With its built in crossover & full-featured equalization features, it was truly a pleasure to install & configure. In conjunction with the Clarion head-unit, the Kenwood equalizer provided adjustment that easily tuned out the system's shortcomings.
The Infinity Kappa speaker sets with the Hafler sub-woofers, comprised a wonderful speaker system. I can easily recommend their use to anyone in the midst of a speaker buying decision. That such fidelity was achieved, with what most would consider 'small' drivers, speaks volumes for their efficiency.
The research, planning, & implementation weren't as easy as expected. But I'm happy it's done & like the way it sounds. Dreams of mid-bass occasionally have me considering some 6" in the doors somehow. I consider major surgery carefully, given the risks, but'll probably do it some day. DynaMat & some other sound deadening stuff has also been put on various panels- whenever they happened to be out & I was in the mood.....
Projects like this can be done @ home, and the results need not be surprisingly good.
